The inauguration of the NHRC pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha marks a significant milestone in the collective journey towards achieving sustainable development goals, viewed through the prism of human rights. The event underscored NHRC's role in bridging the gap between policies and communities’ aspirations, ensuring that their voices are a key ingredient to shaping a sustainable future. By aligning with Expo 2023 Doha, the NHRC confirms that it is part and parcel of the progress towards sustainability.
The event also served to elevate the conversation around human rights within the context of sustainability, aligning with Expo 2023 Doha's vision for a greener, more equitable future. The NHRC's involvement particularly stresses the importance of human rights in the realm of environmental justice and access to natural resources, fostering a deeper understanding of the interconnection between human well-being and environmental health.
This commitment was further demonstrated at a prior event at Expo 2023 Doha, where the NHRC launched the book "Protecting the Right to a Healthy Environment in the State of Qatar (Legal and Practical Study)" on October 31st. This publication is a crucial resource for understanding and implementing environmental protection strategies within the human rights framework, reinforcing the NHRC's dedication to embedding human rights into all aspects of sustainable development.
