Minister of Municipality: "Expo 2023 Doha is a regional and international hub for major events and activities."
In a recent interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, the Minister of Municipality and Chairman of the national committee for hosting the Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, emphasized the strategic importance of Qatar hosting such grand events. The Expo 2023 Doha, being the largest gathering post FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, is poised to enhance Qatar’s stature as a pivotal hub for international events. With participation from 80 countries and an expected attendance exceeding 3 million visitors over six months, the expo aims to accentuate the concept of the "green desert". This global platform will provide a stage for innovation and discussion on topics such as water scarcity, desertification, and advanced agricultural solutions aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Minister shed light on significant environmental initiatives, notably the utilization of modern irrigation techniques. Approximately 75% of green spaces in Qatar now employ treated water, reflecting a conscientious shift towards water conservation. In a testament to Qatar’s green endeavours, the Ministry's dedicated efforts over the past years have amplified the green spaces in Qatar by an impressive tenfold since 2010. The number of public parks has surged from 56 in 2010 to 143 in 2023, marking an increase of 164%. Remarkably, the per capita green space allocation has catapulted from a mere 1 square meter in 2010 to 14.7 square meters in 2023. Qatar has also broadened its tree plantation goal from one million trees to a staggering 10 million by 2030.
