Expo 2023 Doha Celebrates International Day of People with Disabilities.
Greater inclusivity sits at the heart of Expo 2023 Doha agenda, as such, an event commemorating International Day of People with Disabilities was organised by the Department of Special Education and Inclusive Education in collaboration with Expo 2023 Doha. The event marks another step towards achieving greater acceptance and understanding amongst all members of society.
With an overarching theme entitled: Guiding parents navigating the challenges of raising disabled children while fostering a sense of community, the occasion was helmed by two distinguished guests, academic journalist, Sabika Shaban, affiliated with the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University accompanied by writer and social media influencer, Maryam Al Sulaiti, who is also an ambassador for Accessible Qatar, who highlights issues that impact the disabled community.
Both speakers conferred their unique expert insights and addressed the myriad challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, contributing significantly to the heightened awareness of these pervasive issues.
The panel discussion kicked off with a heartfelt homage to Expo 2023 Doha, as it continues to press ahead with its commitment to ensuring an inclusive and accessible experience for all guests. The panel also highlighted Expo’s unrelenting efforts to translate this commitment into material changes in on-site infrastructure and more. The changes include the expansion of corridors and bathrooms for easier accessibility, redesigning food stands to render them more approachable, implementing disability-friendly signage to facilitate navigation for disabled guests, and strategically locating parking lots in the vicinity of entrances to further enhance accessibility.
