ACSAD Workshop at Expo 2023 Doha: Mitigating Climate Impact on Agriculture, Livestock, and Water Resources in the Arab Region.
The Arab League pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha recently hosted a workshop focusing on the pivotal role played by the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry lands (ACSAD) in addressing the repercussions of climate change on agriculture, water, and livestock in the Arab Region. The workshop, spanning two days, brought together a diverse group of experts, specialists, researchers, and stakeholders from various Arab countries.
During the workshop, presentations delved into topics such as the influence of climate change on crop productivity and strategies for adaptation, the impact of climate change on the prevalence of animal diseases, and epidemiological mapping. Additionally, the event showcased ACSAD's initiatives aimed at rehabilitating natural grasslands, disseminating expertise in combating desertification, and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change across the Arab region.
A particular focus of the workshop was on the application of indirect embryology technology for the precise propagation of various date palm varieties. The Center's role in enhancing the genetics of sheep and goats through the implementation of reproductive biotechnologies, including embryo transfer and artificial insemination, was also highlighted.
In tandem with the workshop, ACSAD organized an exhibition featuring its significant scientific products, success stories, achievements, and the activities of its members. The exhibition spotlighted applied projects addressing projected climate changes, emission scenarios, and their impact on water resources.
